Judith,
I've been 'life involved' and haven't had a chance to
continue writing this thread. Am busy with my kids this
weekend but am following your postings avidly.
Just a quick thought this morning ... entailment ... it's a
subtle but extreme form of cauality .. even if it is open
formed and related to hyper-infinities. And there's the
dilemma. Infinities and 'all possibles' (unclosed, unbounded
statistics) - by characteristic - should -not- exhibit
"patterns". Yet a functional deeply cross referenced inter-
working (entailed) universe is wholly characterized -by-
"patterns" .. whether by recursioning or by consistent
deriving-emergence (new qualities out of pre-cursors, but,
always the same 'new qualities' from the same pre-cursors).
Here rests the conceptual challenge that continues to wrestle
with since Cantor, through relativity and quantum mechanics.
We don't yet have the math, let alone conceptual, tools to
umbrella and blend 'definite with indefinite' in a map
of natural existence.
This is where your dad was hoping to at least open up
the eyes and minds of human thinking.
He identified thought-gaps and tried to move people into
that uncharted territory. We are all still struggling
to get there and see what we can .. if its possible for
current human minds to deal with it.
