[Rosen list] Re: David's email - Fresh meat and a wink

David,
Hello. Interesting post and puzzles. A few comments. First
your title, subject was odd and at first I was sure it was
the bad kind of spam. After I checked it just in case it was
for real (there is a linux site called freshmeat and a Monty
Python skit about nudge, nudge, wink, wink that had me
curious) I now don't really understand your puzzle or
questions. Is the overflowing cup this list or some physical
proto-biotic soup? The whys of it that you want - is that the
origin of life or perhaps the meaning/purpose?
Thanks for any more info, still curious as when I opened
your mail...

Hey everybody. I must say that I’ve been watching for a little while and
I think some outrageous drama and compliments (or flattery, as the case
may be) are in order. Thinkers, builders, and cultivators lend me your
ears. Here and hereby, these speak of life.
I can’t escape the feeling that I’m speaking within a large
greenhouse/amphitheater. I hope this goes towards explaining my tone.
I’d like to thank Tim for having the discussion and allowing me to
participate and also for directing me to Judith for a copy of
Anticipatory Systems. Thank you again Judith for parting with one. I’d
like also to say that the last exchange between Tim and Dan on the
modeling relation was good in my opinion.
In fact, I think all of you in the discussion have far too much insight
to keep to yourselves. Seeing as this may be and also that I wish to
proceed in the tradition of Twain as frightened southern dandy, I wish
not to bestow, I want you to bestow upon me.
So please now direct your attention to a cup that we have before us.
Flow has been established into the cup and the cup is overflowing.
Now we observe as some influence or apparatus is brought to bear upon
the cup. We pause to silently note the importance of preparation,
perhaps also the gift and opportunity of life, and of course try to
convince our audience of the ease of the task. We then see that the
influence or apparatus is removed from the cup and we observe thereafter
and therein organisms, the establishment of life.
We observe also that invariably this life is community/ecology.
Can you tell me the whys of it?
Thanks again for the opportunity you guys. I’m looking forward to
speaking with you.
Greetings from NC
David Macy
