Re: Paperback edition of Life, Itself

Hi Martin,

This is really weird... I have no idea how they could turn 285 pages into 404... unless they make the print really huge and spread it out more. They better NOT have added "stuff" to it without my permission-- I warned them specifically not to. They wanted to get the opinions of other scientists and include them as counterpoint. No way!

I'm frustrated with the behavior of Columbia University Press and have been for quite a while, now. In fact, I even requested that they drop my father from their publication list, but they refused to do that. They have done things without informing me, they have told me things which later turned out to not be true, etc.... They are unimaginably slow to get these works out in the marketplace, and have multiple, unexplained delays.

In short... they suck. Sorry it's impacting you.

However, "Life, Itself" is relatively easy to find in libraries because it's still in print and that's also the reason it doesn't go missing the way "Anticipatory Systems" does.

I will attempt to get an update from the publisher and if they have any useful information, I'll post it here.

Cheers,
Judith

Subject: [ROSEN] Paperback edition of Life, Itself

Hi, I'm new to the list. I've just started reading about Robert Rosen
and his work.

I was surprised to see that Amazon has a paperback edition of "Life,
Itself" listed as being available Feb 28, 2005. I had ordered a copy
from Barnes and Noble a few days earlier, but got a message this morning
saying that it has been delayed.

Here's Columbia University Press's entry about it:

http://www.columbia.edu/cu/cup/catalog/data/023107/0231075642.HTM

Also, the paperback has 404 pages, versus the hardback's 285. Is there
any additional content?

Thanks,
Martin
