She certainly is a prolific writer. At the same time, it would seem that her heart is in the right place. Jack Yes, that is exactly what I came away with, too. She wants a lot of the same things that many of us want, and like my father; she is trying to use science to achieve it. Since she's working within the paradigm, rather than outside it like my father was, perhaps she will be able to achieve more of the common goals; namely getting mainstream science to realize that there's more going on in natural systems than our reductionistically generated models would indicate AND that there are very pressing reasons to find new ways to model that incorporate such realities into the decision making processes of industry and government. My fear is that, because many of her aims are similar, and the
initial language (anti-mechanistic/non-reductionistic, etc) is the same, that
when it comes out in the wash that she's gone down the wrong path in her attempt
to get away from the bad things about the old paradigm (i.e. she's still
there!), it may discredit the credibility of people like my father. I have to
admit, though, that it's a relatively small fear, because reality IS WHAT
IT IS, whether we figure out the rules or not. I tend to be convinced that
my father had it right.
So, I try to be positive and hope that people will see she's right
in her diagnosis of the old paradigm, just not quite right in her
"cure".
