Re: Typical view of Robert Rosen, in his office...

Tim and  Judith:
thanks for the pic. Now I have an image behind the theories.
It certainly "humanizes" the thoughts.

One word about pipe-smoking: when I was a novice in polymers I bought a pipe to smoke, hoping that it will make me fast into a 'big chemist'. It did not, so I threw it away (anno 1950 - to the undescribable happiness of my young wife).

Forwarded on behalf of Judith Rosen. See below.
(I converted the 900K (!!) GIF image to a 64K JPEG. The image quality appears to be the same.)

For those who never saw this photo, I'll attach it here. Hopefully Tim's server will accept the attachment- just in case, Tim can you find a way to get it up on the list for me?

Dr. Aloisius Louie took this picture of my father, who was Aloisius' PhD advisor in 1980 and 81. I used this photo as part of the slide presentation during my talk at Asilomar because it's so perfect, so completely representative, right down to the pipe in his hand. If he wasn't actually using it, it would be in one of the bulging, overfilled pockets of his jacket. As you can see from this photograph, my father was not an organized fellow and tended to file things via the "pile method". I have since discovered that this is genetic, and while I hesitate to consider any of the qualities I inherited from my Dad a "defect"... it certainly has its down side.
