Tim you asked in your apallogie (watch my spelling):
"How can that kind of treatment possibly be economically justified???"
You just said it:  ECONOMICALLY.
In all circles of goodwill and reason we can see the concern against a disregard in all power-circles (brutality, money, ideology, politics, etc. etc.) for humane ideals, for caring for the furutre. even for the mere survival of humainty, as contrasted with THEIR own (imagined) advancement in wealth/power, on
firm basis: to reap profit, period.
Some call it capitalist materialism, I call it econo-feudalism. It does not matter, it is a human/biospheric suicidal attitude.

I was scowled when I pointed at the only way of changing the power-structure (with its background-system) the bloody one shown in the French Revolution. THEY (the power-club) will not think, not listen, not draw conclusions to change.

In the mad-cow question:
I - as a peaceful thinker over a long lifetime, never in any group of violence, not even 1 day in any uniform, say: kill them off.
There is no other way. I lived (was even arrested) under both nazis, and commis, lived in poverty and in a capitalist- even  post-capitalist system, studied several religious and political principles, economy and psychology, worked on diverse continents (communicated including 4 of them) - I state now
that doomsday is close, unless the better thinking majority gets
rid of the feudal lords of no concern. Cremate the mad-humans.

Does this answer your untold question?
