Re: Footers to posts?

Hi JohnM et al,
Good questions :)
1) As for who is the "original author" when quoting another author, I
believe the term "original" would imply that the quoted section is copyright
of the author of the quote. Perhaps if I changed it to "All applicable
copyrights..."
2) I don't have a good answer.
3) As I wrote this initial footer version, it would restrict the quoting of
a post without prior permission. I doubt one can legally control
paraphrasing. And, quoting without names is not quoting - I'd think that its
either plagiarism or absorbed knowledge being re-radiated.
4) It is grandfathered back through every thought you ever had! <G> No, just
kidding. I suppose one could make forum "rules" that would apply to any and
all posts.
This is just a first pass at these footers. I searched back on a Lsoft
listmasters support archives and found one that was similar to what I used.
(Did that mean I violated a copyright!!? Since it was offered by the author
as an example of what to use, I suspect not.)
I'd like to do something, in light of the recent discussions we had about
copyright and IP issues. I would also like to have something that at least
somewhat absolves me, as listowner, of culpability for what someone else
posts (hence the "...and responsibilities..."). I would like it to be short,
whatever it is. (I agree that they sound stuffy, no matter what.)
Maybe I ought to drop the "permission" part of the statement and just have
that be just an ettiquette thing? However, one of the big concerns by some
was not wanting their posts quoted, cross-posted, or otherwise used
elsewhere without consent. I just don't know how to condense that down to a
short phrasing.
Perhaps something like:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
All responsibilities and applicable copyrights for email sent
through ROSEN are retained by the original author.

Tim

All copyrights and responsibilities for email sent through ROSEN
are retained by the original author, and require their permission
prior to any use outside of this list.
