These potential new organisms may not need to have a very elaborate internal
model. Without any prior selection pressures to moderate their internal
model, they are entirely free to be 'uncouth'. Depending on their metabolic
and other abilities, it may suffice that they distinguish their environment
into a spectra of only two classes: food and non-food, wherein the class of
food is comprised of, for example, anything of an organic nature. In the
long run, we might say that this will be self-defeating for them, but by
then there may be no biosphere left as we would recognize it.
