Re: Function and functional organization

Hi John M,

What is the 'I' in "'I' ergo I am"? That is "<quote>I<quote>", not "T".  The font does make it hard to read. As you say, the long form is something like "I assume that....". But, who is this "I" that makes the assumption? So, my version was based on the notion that it is our initial "sense" of "self" or "I", and not - "think" or "think I think" - that is what actually leads to the resulting "I am". The 'I' could be thought of as an abbreviation for "sense" of "self".
Let me try it with a different font:  'I' ergo I am.

You are right about noumena/noumenon.  I used the plural intentionally to leave it as general as possible. But it does come across as grammatically incorrect.

Tim

And I don't quote the past posts +++ again...
Tim,

A remarkable rarity: we agree in almost all counts.

Upon what you remarked, maybe "entirety" IS better than (a?) wholeness, because it only points to "wholeness" (ha ha) without implying that "it is ONE whole unit. The "entirety" of sand (particles) on a beach is not a wholeness. I have to think about it.

What is that "T" you mention as food for Descartes? The original short form is pretentious. Know-it-all. Ex cathedra. This is why I like the 'long' form: "I assume that... Are we sure of anything?

On RR measurement: you made my day, thanks. There is a bit of difference: I did not think of abstracting the measurable into a mere number (of measuremenet), only to the ONE aspec we measure. If I measure the 'length' of my shoe, it still may smell.

Have a good one

PS I don't know Greek, but heard 'noumena' as plurlar, with singular (a) noumenon. I am also abhorred to read "a data",
the plural of (a) datum. But that is Latin, what I learned. - J
