I'm sure there are applications for Rosennean models in ecology...
There are even applications for good (mechanistic) models in ecology (that
fit reality and not a particular political agenda).  I wish you luck.

On a side note, I once talked to an old upper-Chesapeake bay oyster
fisherman who thinks all the bay's problems comes from damming up the
various rivers (from Pennsylvania) that used to flow into the Northern
Chesapeake.  He thinks that the bay has since lost its natural "flushing
out" that it used to have.  This results (he said) in the Bay becoming more
salty and all sorts of other problems (especially with diseases to
oysters)....
