Re: (feedback) Rosen's "Autographical Reminiscences"

Thanks, Jannie. I had hoped people would find it interesting! Sometimes,
it's very helpful and useful to see how someone else got from one point to
another in pursuing an idea or developing a body of work. For that reason, I
will also be making public (posting and/or publishing) some of the notes he
generated while he was writing his various papers and books. His habit was
to get up very early, sometimes well before the crack of dawn, brew some
coffee, put on some Bach or other of his vast classical music collection,
and sit at the typewriter (later, a computer) and just start "talking" to
himself. He would organize his thoughts in this way and create a tangible
record of them that became useful when he started doing the actual writing
of the piece. He regarded these as garbage when he was done, and destroyed
most of them. Just tossed them in with the rest of the household trash! But
I kept all the ones that I found when I was clearing his place in Halifax
out and I think they are an irreplaceable bridge between his mind and the
work he generated. You can really see, from them, how his mind was working
as it was turning over the concepts and developing priorities, conncections,
strategies for what language to use to convey his meaning... I love reading
through them and I suspect many of you out there may also.
It will have to wait for this autobiographical thing to be finished in it's
serialized posting first. My hands are cramping up!
